The Hunger Games

The First book in Suzanne Collins Hunger Games Trilogy

Storyline: In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the other districts in line by forcing them to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight-to-the-death on live TV. One boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and sixteen are selected by lottery to play. The winner brings riches and favor to his or her district. But that is nothing compared to what the Capitol wins: one more year of fearful compliance. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence. But Katniss has been close to dead before – and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Seriously who doesn’t love the hunger games? Suzanne Collins is an amazing writer – with how desperately she seems to want to kill a bunch of kids she’s a tad insane.. But honestly who isn’t a tad insane? – this story is suspenseful, emotional, action packed at times, and then calmer at others.. There was only a few lulls in the story but it was all at good times! When she’s in the forest just walking or sitting after nearly being killed.. That seems like a good lull to catch your breath since you were – inadvertently – holding it during that last scene! Also the book has so much more detail – as they usually do– and is WAY more intense than the movie was!
Katniss is just so darn loveable and you can’t help but feel attached to her! And the love battle for her is a nice touch to the story…. #TEAMPEETA! By the way. I would definitely – and have – recommend this book to everyone!

  1. I did find the first movie was at the bottom of my list. The editing wasn’t the best, and it threw me off. The idea of the original story was still there, though, and Jennifer Lawrence was a perfect Katniss!

I’m glad you loved the book! I can’t wait to hear your reviews of the other ones! (Mostly because all the things I like to discuss are in the later books…)
