The Perks of being a Wallflower

A Novel by Stephen Chbosky

Storyline: Perks follows observant “wallflower” Charlie as he charts a course through the strange world between adolescence and adulthood. First dates, family drama, and new friends. Sex, drugs, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Devastating loss, young love, and life on the fringes. Caught between trying to live his life and trying to run from it, Charlie must learn to navigate those wild and poignant roller-coaster days known as growing up.

What the actual hell did i just read? I don’t think any fifteen year old in the world could be so clueless or awkward or just plain dumb!!  Though apparently he’s really smart because of his grades and advanced classes…which I don’t understand, I mean unless he’s an alien. or maybe homeschooled and lives in a secluded area of the planet with no tv and no movies.  –Which coincidentally I actually was!! All I watched was Disney movies, Golden Girls, Full House and the Love Boat..Seriously.. I had no friends, but I was never as clueless about life or people as this guy!!– I just don’t understand how he’s so stupid.

I heard such great things about this book and I wanted to like it.. But.. I just couldn’t! You’re basically reading letters the whole book from this kid Charlie to a friend of some sort. Which I Assume is kind of to the reader to make you feel like his friend. And although I usually like ‘diary’ or ‘letter’ style of books I just didn’t like this format of it.. The book is so full of teenage cliches, and the characters aren’t the least bit interesting and the storyline.. I’m not really sure there is one.. If there was, I definitely couldn’t figure it out.. And the ending sucked so hard! I was confused and bored for most of the book, it felt like it took FOREVER to read and I almost quit reading it halfway through but I held on and I finished it… Wish I wouldn’t have though, it wasted my time.  I wouldn’t recommend it.

I rate this book
