A Novel by Marissa Meyer
Storyline: Long before she was the terror of Wonderland, she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love. Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next queen. Then Cath meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the king and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship. Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
Oh. My. Lord. Why have I waited so long to read this book??? I absolutely loved it! It seemed a little slow a few times but it all builds up and makes so much sense! I love that it’s a prequel to Alice in wonderland and shows insight into how the Queen of Hearts ends up being how she is! Marissa Meyer is an absolutely amazing author, especially the way she writes ‘villains’ backgrounds it’s just amazing! It was a fantastic story that had so many tiny details in it that all intertwined together so flawlessly to make this wonderful story! It was everything I could have wanted in an Alice in wonderland prequel, it was whimsical and emotional and fun. I absolutely love everything to do with wonderland, and this book was no exception! If you haven’t read it yet, you need to. Like now. Seriously.
