The First book in Leigh Bardugo’s Nikolai Duology
Description: Nikolai Lantsov has always had a gift for the impossible. No one knows what he endured in his country’s bloody civil war―and he intends to keep it that way. Now, as enemies gather at his weakened borders, the young king must find a way to refill Ravka’s coffers, forge new alliances, and stop a rising threat to the once-great Grisha Army. Yet with every day a dark magic within him grows stronger, threatening to destroy all he has built. With the help of a young monk and a legendary Grisha Squaller, Nikolai will journey to the places in Ravka where the deepest magic survives to vanquish the terrible legacy inside him. He will risk everything to save his country and himself. But some secrets aren’t meant to stay buried―and some wounds aren’t meant to heal.
Oh how I’ve missed these characters! Nina and Nikolai are life! Actually.. all of these characters are life! I would have loved to see some of the other six of crows gang in it, but Nina was enough to be honest. She is such a dessert loving badass, which I admire the crap out of. Speaking of badasses though I fell in love with Zoya! How could you not, she’s a no nonsense hard hitting yet very complex character with such a heartbreaking backstory. You just wanna wrap her in blankets and feed her ice cream (even though she would probably punch you in the face for it)…Genya and David’s relationship is pure goals! They’re literally the cutest couple ever! This book has so many twists and turns and I loved every second of it! And that ending!! (I can see a lot of people hating the ending) but I am so beyond ridiculously happy about it!!! I can’t say much without spoiling everything. But if you’ve read the other two series (six of crows and the Grisha trilogy) then you MUST read this one! And if you haven’t read those, then there’s something wrong with you.. you should immediately go read those and then read this one too! Also, I just noticed that this is only going to be a duology and now I’m sad that it’s not gonna be three books.. so I’m just gonna go cry about that now
I rate this book
