Ghosts of the Shadow Market

A Companion Novel to The Mortal Instruments, The Dark Artifices and The Infernal Devices Series by Cassandra Clare also written by Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, Kelly Link and Robin Wasserman.

Description: The Shadow Market is a meeting point for faeries, werewolves, warlocks, and vampires. There, the Downworlders buy and sell magical objects, make dark bargains, and whisper secrets they do not want the Nephilim to know. Through two centuries, however, there has been a frequent visitor to the Shadow Market from the City of Bones, the very heart of the Shadowhunters’ world. As a Silent Brother, Brother Zachariah is a sworn keeper of the laws and lore of the Nephilim. But once he was a Shadowhunter called Jem Carstairs, and his love, then and always, is the warlock Tessa Gray. And Jem is searching through the Shadow Markets, in many different cities over long years, for a relic from his past. Follow Jem and see, against the backdrop of the Shadow Market’s dark dealings and festival, Anna Lightwood’s doomed romance, Matthew Fairchild’s great sin, and Tessa Gray as she is plunged into a world war. Valentine Morgenstern buys a soul at the Market and a young Jace Wayland’s soul finds safe harbor. In the Market is hidden a lost heir and a beloved ghost, and no one can save you once you have traded away your heart. Not even Brother Zachariah.

I know I say it often… but I really can’t truly explain how happy I am whenever a new Cassandra Clare book comes out! Every time I get my hands on one and dive into it, it’s like coming home and seeing, and catching up with all of my old friends. And to top it all off this book was essentially all about Jem! *swoons* Yes it split into different characters around him at times too.. but he’s in legit every one of these stories, it’s story’s throughout his life, from the Jem he was before…to Brother Zachariah and to the Jem he is now, and I LOVE IT!! I will admit it, I cried…a lot. He just seems to do that to me, he’s so sweet and understanding and basically lives for the people he loves. It’s endearing and just so touching. One thing I love about these types of books (including the bane chronicles) is that it gives a lot of insight to the back stories of not just Jem but of a bunch of side characters that were mentioned throughout the series, little snippets thrown in like how Stephen Herondale and Celine got together, how that actually happened. And what happened to Tessa after Will passed away… it’s small stories that don’t seem like they would have been important to the story until you read this. Then all of those little details in the other series suddenly make sense. You get why people did what they did and how those situations came about, I love these novels! I would love one for Tessa to come out too… I feel like there’s a lot of her story missing still. I loved this book, it may be my new top shadow world one now!

I rate this book
