The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The First book in the millennium series by Stieg Larsson

Synopsis: Harriet Vanger, a scion of one of Sweden’s wealthiest families disappeared over forty years ago. All these years later, her aged uncle continues to seek the truth. He hires Mikael Blomkvist, a crusading journalist recently trapped by a libel conviction, to investigate. He is aided by the pierced and tattooed punk prodigy Lisbeth Salander. Together they tap into a vein of unfathomable iniquity and astonishing corruption.

Okay, so it took what felt like forever to actually get to the story that you read about in the description…There’s so much back story and background building that has to go through and explain before we actually get to the main story part, so that was a little boring at first..But once it started, I really got into it!

It’s got everything! Murder, mystery, sex, family drama, politics, sketchy business deals, lies and intrigue! I don’t actually think —aside from the long winded beginning— that I had any complaints about this story! I loved a bunch of the characters that you were clearly meant to love and hated the ones who obviously sucked. I think the author did a very good job writing these people into existence, I couldn’t help feeling bad for the characters when something went wrong and feeling excited in their few triumphs.

One thing that I could see being hard to follow or bad about this book, is the fact that there’s three or four plot lines that run through this book at the same time…so if you’re not into that, I could see how it might feel overwhelming. But each storyline does have a conclusion. I didn’t expect the murder mystery part to end the way it did, but I was so happy to know exactly what happened.

I’m not sure what the other two books in the series are about because this one wrapped up quite nicely.. bad guys down, mystery solved, almost everyone is happy..I realize it’s about a journalist so the next ones can be about different stories, but I’m wondering if it’s the same characters or not? hopefully it is because I kind of like these ones. I quite enjoyed this book!

I rate this book
