A Novel by Seraphina Nova Glass
Synopsis: Betrayal was just the beginning…Melanie Hale is a devoted mother to her two children, a diligent caregiver to her ailing mother-in-law and a trusted neighbor in their wealthy Louisiana community. Above all, she’s a loving partner to her wonderful husband, Collin. Then there are the parts of herself that Mel keeps hidden. She’s exhausted, worried and unfulfilled. So much so that one night, after a writers’ group meeting, Mel begins an affair with a successful local author named Luke. Suddenly she’s transformed into a role she doesn’t recognize—a woman who deceives with unseemly ease. A woman who might be capable of just about anything. When Mel finds Luke’s dead body in his lavish rented house, she realizes just how high the stakes have become. Not only does she have to keep her affair a secret in order to preserve her marriage, but she desperately needs to avoid being implicated in Luke’s death. But who would want to kill him? Who else in her life is keeping secrets? And most terrifying of all, how far will they—and she—go to keep those secrets hidden?
First of all I would like to mention that WON this ARC! This book is set to release August 10th of 2021. So thank you to the publisher for sending me a copy of this book!
This book was INTENSE. This poor woman is so mentally messed up throughout this entire book. She is struggling with the hardships life is throwing at her, life is testing her patience and her strength. And she admittedly screws up, a lot. She cheats on her husband (who’s absolutely amazing by the way) and now she’s suffering with that guilt. which just adds to the mental hellhole that she’s going through.
The characters were loveable and you couldn’t help but feel for them, and really hope everything turned out well.. the writing however was very inconsistent, it flipped from first person to more of a narration type of book. It flipped back and forth quite often, sometimes even in the same chapter. So I would have liked her to make up her mind about how she was writing it. But that’s probably my only complaint. (And who knows maybe that was fixed before it is being released)
As for the story though…It was amazing! It was dramatic, intense, steamy, thrilling, mysterious, and just down right such a fun journey! And holy banana balls! I didn’t freaking see that end twist coming AT ALL! so many curveballs! You think it’s going one direction, then you think it’s a different one, and all of a sudden the actual truth pops out from left field and you’re left totally flabbergasted. So bravo! Because I usually find myself unsurprised by murder mystery endings, but holy crap. So good.
I highly suggest you guys pick up a copy of this book when it comes out. I think it’s gonna be the hit of the summer.
I rate this book
