The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Prisoner’s Dilemma

The Third book in The Mysterious Benedict Society series by Trenton Lee Stewart

Synopsis: Join the Mysterious Benedict Society as Reynie, Kate, Sticky, and Constance embark on a daring new adventure that threatens to force them apart from their families, friends, and even each other. When an unexplained blackout engulfs Stonetown, the foursome must unravel clues relating to a nefarious new plot, while their search for answers brings them closer to danger than ever before.. Could this be the end of the Mysterious Benedict Society?

Okay! So we are definitely getting into middle book territory, this one wasn’t as jam packed and eventful as the first two, but it was still quite fantastic! The story seemed like a little bit of a filler, not a lot of drama happened, problems seemed to be solved quite quickly. But middle books always tend to set up the next one, maybe the last two really pull out all the stops! Which is a confusing part, since this one had such a good finality to it. Everyone is happy, there’s no cliffhanger. He could have actually stopped the series here and it would have been perfect!

In this one we got to find out and see Constances back story, how she came to be homeless and how she came to be at the mysterious Benedict society. I admit she was not my favourite in the first book, but since the second book and especially now I think she’s definitely my favourite. She’s a remarkable little girl.

One complaint that I have about this book is that Reynie is still so gosh dang whiny! And with his —what I feel is a newer– obsession with having to be the first one to solve every puzzle I find him increasingly more frustrating and more annoying. Kate and Sticky are fine, they’re there.. impulsive and worrying but they’re decent characters.

Overall though I am really enjoying the series! It’s colourful and fun and I do have the last two books so I will probably be reading them pretty soon! Because I do love this world. I’m curious to see what the actual end of the series is going to look like, if the end of this middle book was a good enough series ending. Then I expect a FABULOUS ending to the series.

I rate this book
