The Chestnut Man

A Novel by Søren Sveistrup
Translated by Caroline Waight

Synopsis: IF YOU FIND ONE, HE’S ALREADY FOUND YOU A psychopath is terrorizing Copenhagen. His calling card is a “chestnut man”—a handmade doll made of matchsticks and two chestnuts—which he leaves at each bloody crime scene. Examining the dolls, forensics makes a shocking discovery—a fingerprint belonging to a young girl, a government minister’s daughter who had been kidnapped and murdered a year ago. A tragic coincidence—or something more twisted? To save innocent lives, a pair of detectives must put aside their differences to piece together the Chestnut Man’s gruesome clues. Because it’s clear that the madman is on a mission that is far from over.
And no one is safe.

This book was so good! Holy shit, very disturbing.. but so good! So My husband and I took a buzzfeed quiz ‘what horror book should you read next’ or something like that and this book was the answer and it sounded so good that we went out and bought it the next day… and I’m happy we did.

The story was terrifyingly intense, fast paced and quite gory. The mystery and thrill of this book is consistent throughout the entire book, it keeps you guessing until the very end, I couldn’t put it down, I NEEDED to know who The Chestnut Man killer was and who was causing all the havoc and why! I didn’t see it coming, I had my suspicions and I was very, absolutely wrong.

I really enjoyed the way this book was written, it dropped information along the way that kept you so interested in the story, but it didn’t drop alot of information at one time and spoil anything or make you feel overwhelmed with evidential information. It was very cleverly written in that regard.

Also, the character development was amazing. I liked that they all felt like real people with real issues and emotions, just trying to throw ever fibre of their being into solving a case. With relationships being made and torn apart thorough the book just made it feel all the more real.

If you are into crime/mystery/thriller (and I mean thriller, my heart was pounding and my doors were locked the entire time I read this book because I was terrified) and you haven’t read this book. Then you need to stop what you’re doing and immediately go out and get it. So freaking good.

**also this book is apparently going to be a show on Netflix soon…. honestly I might not be able to watch it because it was that intense**

I rate this book
