The One Plus One

A Novel by Jojo Moyes

Synopsis: One single mom. One chaotic family. One quirky stranger. One irresistible love story. Suppose your life sucks. A lot. Your husband has done a vanishing act, your teenage stepson is being bullied, and your math-whiz daughter has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you can’t afford to pay for. That’s Jess’ life in a nutshell – until an unexpected knight-in-shining-armor offers to rescue them. Only Jess’ knight turns out to be Geeky Ed, the obnoxious tech millionaire whose vacation home she happens to clean. But Ed has big problems of his own, and driving the dysfunctional family to the Math Olympiad feels like his first unselfish act in ages…maybe ever.

This book was an absolute delight to read! This was my school pick up book for the last few weeks and I honestly looked forward to picking it up everyday.

It was such a fun and light book, it would be perfect for a beach or vacation read. It was funny and dramatic at the same time. The characters are all so damn loveable and also so complex.

I loved the way all of the relationships were written, it felt so true and so real. They didn’t really feel like characters, they felt like family or friends that you knew. Seeing them grow as an unconventional and chosen family was just so heartwarming.

I loved rooting them on and mourning their hardships with them —of which there were a crap ton. It was just such a fun book to read. If you are looking for something fun and light but still has some substance to read, I highly suggest this book.

I rate this book

9/10
