Dear John

A Novel by Nicholas Sparks

Synopsis: An angry rebel, John dropped out of school and enlisted in the Army, not knowing what else to do with his life–until he meets the girl of his dreams, Savannah. Their mutual attraction quickly grows into the kind of love that leaves Savannah waiting for John to finish his tour of duty, and John wanting to settle down with the woman who captured his heart. But 9/11 changes everything. John feels it is his duty to re-enlist. And sadly, the long separation finds Savannah falling in love with someone else. “Dear John,” the letter read…and with those two words, a heart was broken and two lives were changed forever. Returning home, John must come to grips with the fact that Savannah, now married, is still his true love–and face the hardest decision of his life.

I’m not actually sure why or where I bought this book…I remember seeing the movie a long time ago but I don’t remember anything about it —did I like it? Was it even a good movie? I’m not sure.. I’m not fully sure why I even got this book. Probably got it during my Channing Tatum crush phase to be honest.

It was purely just okay, definitely the type of book that would make a better movie than a book. There were a lot of boing parts that would make good movie montages, but not so much as book chapters. It was slow and boring.. it dragged on and on with not much happening in between thirty second plot points here and there.

There wasn’t much of a story to be honest…boy and girl have a summer romance declaring their eternal love, he goes back to the army, they grow apart, she gets married, he pines for her and that’s about it.. the characters were drab and annoying, I felt nothing for any of them.. like at all. By the end I didn’t care about what happened to them or where they ended up. They legit could have all spontaneously combusted and I wouldn’t have batted an eyelash… actually, that may have been a better ending.

The ending was disappointing, it’s not a happy ending, it’s not even a sad or tragic ending? It just… ends. If it would have been a happy ending or even a devastating ending it would have alot better.. but meh, I wasn’t a fan. It wasn’t great.

I rate this book
